I've got an existing customer whose screen has died. Don't know yet if its the GPU or the screen or what but he doesn't care. He's already got another laptop and is just asking to have his data transferred over. I remembered that I had installed Logmein last year and, lo and behold, it would connect. It's stuck in 640x480 and just pulled up the device manager which shows the nVidia card isn't working (He also said it's been running crazy-hot so....)

No bother. I've got a connection and can just go about backing things up.

So, I thought that I'd connect with SC so that I'd get the full keyboard mapping and such. Got a connection but the screen shows blank. In SC, I can only see the cursor moving but, in LMI, I see it all. Even if I close LMI, I get the same. I've installed it as Unattended... no changes.

Now, if both remote softwares couldn't see anything, fine, but it almost seems as if SC is dependent upon the video card to transmit.

It's likely 256 color. Try bumping the display up to 16bit or 32bit color. You should be able to do this with that driver.

Not an option. The video card is dead. It's giving 640x480x4color and, for all I can tell, it might be only because the LMI mirror driver is present that I'm getting anything at all. I was able to switch it from a non-functioning nVidia to a "functioning" standard VGA but it's still locked at the same screen res and colours.

While I understand that SC might want/expect 256, shouldn't it be able to function in 4?

4 colors? Black, white, and 2 shades of gray? I'm not familiar with this as an option. I'd be curious to see a screenshot.

Sorry - not "4 colours" but "4 bit" (16 colours, not much better)
