G'Day Folks,

I have 2 WHM Web Hosting accounts with dedicated IP addresses and multiple domains hosted under these structures.
Additionally I also have a Dedicated IP address at my location in Sydney Australia.

My Workstation structure consists of "Multi-Boot" Operating Systems whereas I am able to boot up into, as an E.G. into Windows XP Pro SP3 , or Windows Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7 Ultimate on system 04.
Other systems boot into Win XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003, Windows 7 Ultimate, / also run Ubuntu and MAC OSX systems, among other older windows OS's.

Not knowing which my needs or my customer needs are at any one time, I could be using any one at a given time. This obviously makes it also difficult to install the "Admin Client" on any one of these as a dedicated station for ScreenConnect, hence the need to install it on my Web Hosting account structure.

Any help and input as to the best way to do this would be appreciated.

Regards

well this software is windows based so whm is just not going to work as it is centos linux. The cheapest windows hosting I have found is http://www.thrustvps.com/ at $8 per month. For that cheap you will have to expect less than 100% uptime though.

Thanks for the reply, however I needed the installation instructions rather than the Cheap VPS Hosting
of which there are hundreds ranging from USD $5.95 upward to USD $ 600.00+ (must be kidding at that price)

Google search result for " cheap vps hosting "

Have fun :)

G'day Folks,
- and thanks "The Open File" for your input.

The instructions I referred to is that for the Server Installation.

I opted to use www.thrustvps.com on their Dallas location and the Windows 2008, as this with speed tests on a 100MB download from my location in Sydney Australia, proved to be the fastest out of the 4 available locations.

To help Forum members in case they ever need it,
Plan (Advanced) locations and info are located here - Advanced:VPS
Speed tests are located here on the FAQ Page - Called Download Tests and then listed as Speed Tests on the page.

I will keep you all informed as to the result of my Trial and Service Tests on both the ThrustVPS and ScreenConnect Service.

G'day Folks,

So at the end of the day after testing the download speed of the 4 different serers that thrustvps.com had to offer, I ended up with
the “UK Low Contention XenHVM Mystic 1GB RAM 30GB Disk Space 1TB Transfer 1 IP” Plan on which I now have the ScreenConnect
loaded and running all the time.

I did have some difficulty with the connection to my VPS/VNC structure droping out using the nVidia Network drivers on the windows
XP Pro SP3 workstation, which took a lot of troubleshooting to finally workout that it was the “FirstPacket” setting In the nVidia Control
Panel, [Networking] ->[Configure FirstPacket settings] -> where we had “Enabled FirstPacket (recommended)” which caused the
problem and by changing the setting to “Disable FirstPacket” it fixed the dropout to the VPS/VNC account structure with thrustvps.com.

Obviously we setup our Windows 2008 R2 server differently to what most would use, i.e. the default, and opted to add a few pieces of software and applied all the required OS and other software updates.

The ScreenConnect and the VPS/VNC on thrustvps.com is now in good working order and I have not had any dropouts.

Speed tests for thrustvps .com - Results (This was tested on a ADSL 2+ connection with TPG {tpg.com.au} and using Firefox v8.0.1 and GetRight v6.5 with 4 segments simultaneously, i.e. 4 x 25MB segments at the same time.)

UK Speed Test.
100MB in 1mm 28sec
East Coast NJ Speed Test
100MB in 1mm 23sec
Texas, Dallas Speed Test
100MB in 1min 21sec
West Coast LA Speed Test
100MB in 3min 12sec

The West Coast LA test surprised me as it was the closest (as the crow flies) to me in Sydney Australia, yet is the slowest in the test.

If you need any help setting up your own Server on a VPS/VNC environment for ScreenConnect, you can/may ask me for assistance.

This seemed the most appropriate thread to resurrect. I've been self-hosting but my situation has changed and I need to look at hosting. ThrustVPS is getting good reviews here so I'm leaning their way. I know next to nothing about VPS, though.

The big question is: Which of their packages will I need? I see "cheapest windows hosting I have found is .. at $8 per month" mentioned but I don't see one that matches up with that.

Yeah, It looks like they upped the price to $10.45. That $10.45 package is more than enough to run screenconnect.

Okay, I think I've done things right but apparently not.

Got a month on ThrustVPS. Now have SC installed on the VPS. Pasted my license in. All signs GO so far....
Followed the instructions here: http://help.screenconnect.com/HOWTO-0014.ashx
Copied over the web.config and the two folders. My customizations show up.
On my in-house router, I'd been using DlinkDDNS for forwarding. Went to their site and pointed it to the IP of the VPS. Immediately, my old URL of TLC.DLINKDDNS.COM worked. This is the same URL that my unattendeds are setup through.

However, none of my unattendeds are there. I'm pretty sure it has to do with encryption keys or something but the HowTo page doesn't give any information on that. I *think* I've done it all right but.... ?

POSSIBLE FALSE ALARM: I was basing my concerns on the fact that I knew there was usually 30ish clients online and none were showing. I just rebooted my Bench machine and it's now online. So, it looks like they just need to reboot (and, being residentials, that's easy enough to get done.)

Actually what I found works and gets them all to talk to the new server is to reboot the device with the old IP. In this case I would reboot your dlink router there because that where they used to be pointing to. This will sometimes force the unattended clients to do a new DNS lookup. Give that a shot.

Makes sense, except the old router has been under a second router for a week now and is no longer directly connected.
Since I wrote that last night, I've gone from just my bench machine showing up to 24.
