It was discussed on here before that running screenconnect server side is not possible on linux. Has there been any work on making this possible or the possibility of running it via MONO?

No work has been done. This is on the list, but not super-high priority.

Screencast not having a Linux SC Server is why I haven't gotten Screencast. Most of my operations and servers run on a linux bases solution. I am not interested in running a virtual machine/virtual box windows (more over head for my servers) version of it on my linux server, when native linux items run cleaner and more stable.

I am very interested in screencast and would be one of the first to purchase it if you made the server side to run on a linux server natively. (debian - ubuntu. mint linux / redhat - fedora, centos ) I am certain you would get a lot of interested parties if you moved this direction.

To speed things up, you could always put a call out to some of the forums like Linux Mint and CentOs to see if they have anyone interested in helping you to straighten out the code to make it happen. It never hurts to ask. Find a person or two and make a deal with them to allow them when it's completed 1 usable linux license of Screencast for their help in coding efforts - or something reasonable like that. (just a thought)

*Jake* let me know when you you guys make it happen.

I don't see why there needs to be a linux build. It runs better on Windows then it would on unix anyway... And you did not even get the name right or was that what you wanted?

Yeah, normally I would have responded, but if he can't even get the name right not sure they even know what forum they are posting on...

I don't care about supporting Linux clients, or running Linux on my host/technician side, but I would very much like to see a Linux server version that I could run on my existing Linux VPS in a datacenter and NOT have it running on a workstation in my office.

I personally run all Linux in my shop, from the Desktop to the Server and Android on my cell phone. I had to specifically build a Windows box just to be able to run the Screenconnect Server, I would be over joyous to have a native version to run on a Linux Server. One of the main reasons I purchased the software was due to being able to offer remote support to Windows, Mac and Linux users. An unattended Linux session would be a nice bonus though. I am quite happy at least with being able to provide remote support at all to Linux users though.

Then you should have gotten a Windows box... I'd rather never see anything ported to linux... there is just no need, if they do it's just to be greedy

We want to sell more ScreenConnects. That's why we're here! There isn't much that we do to the product for any other reason than to sell more ScreenConnects .... Short term, medium term, but most especially-- long term.

We have our biases, but for the most part they don't affect our development. Pseudo religious wars exist between .NET and Java, iOS and Android, Mac and Windows ... but we support them all. And quite honestly, my biases change on a nearly daily basis for each of these (usually peeved at whatever platform I've worked on most recently).

If you'd like to feel better about our development process, keep in mind that we want to grow, which is the good part for you guys, because rather than put the money in our pocket, instead we invest more in all kinds of development-- hopefully some of which will give you some of the features you want. And of course we also enjoy the development and keeping customers happy.

I am not sure why there is so much opposition to having a linux server. I for one welcome this idea and will embrace it full force. I want screenconnect to grow and keep developing these killer features. This has been one of the best software partnerships I have ever been in with a company! GO SCREENCONNECT!

As long as the licenses are not tied to EITHER Windows OR Linux, I would love to see a Linux server version of Screen Connect.
