More than 50% of the work I do on a remote computer is done via the command prompt.... be it OSX, Linux, or Windows.
I would love to see just_that_option for unattended guests. That way, I can do what it is I need to do on their remote computers, without having to interrupt their work.
Granted, it's currently not an issue for when I remote support Linux and OSX guest, I usually have a site-to-site VPN for those customers anyhow and can ssh into those machines, but for my many Windows customers this would be a great feature.

sounds like a good idea .. a company i used to work for used Bomgar .. it allowed you to connect to the customers computer
without seeing there screen at first and just use chat or Command Prompt to run commands on the users computer .

then you could start the screen sharing if desired .

this sounds great......

Sounds like we have a few people who would like to see this introduced. In the past our system was not really setup to allow that type of access without being connected via the screen sharing. With the release of 2.4 there is a bit more capability to communicate with unattended clients without actually opening the screen share. So I will get this submitted and we can see what is possible. Suggestions on use model, specific user interface elements that you would like, or any examples of how you think this should work once implemented please append to this post.

I was looking for this precisely.

I manage a bunch of console-only linux (ubuntu) servers located at several locations. I have ssh access to some of them, but not all. SSH access requires port forwarding and in some cases that is not possible. When I cannot ssh to the server, I ScreenConnect to a client's PC and from there I run PuTTY and connect to the server.

If I could have a simple remote console equivalent to SSH with SFTP capabilities, it would be great. I would install an unattended guest on every server and have access to all of them.

Jeff, it's nice to see that you guys really do take user input into consideration... thanks.
As for use model or interface, just about anything would do the trick. A terminal emulator written in Java, DotNEt, etc would do the trick.
If you've ever seen the Endian Firewall web based console that would be fine... or just about anything.
And while we are on the subject, the ability to transfer a file via the same interface would be spot-on for the perfect console for an old fart like me - though not really necessary. I just figure that the file transfer ability is there already, and if you put the work into coding a remote-console-only then it shouldn't be hard to add the feature... though I could be wrong.
I'm in no rush for this console thing, so long as you can get it out in the next few days that will be fine - one week tops! :D
