Hi

Is there a way to limit the size/number of entries on the session logs?

not really. we used to limit them ourselves, but then stopped after we figured it would be bad to discard data. why do you want to limit the entries?

I know on sessions that have been around forever the log takes a while to load when viewing. But to me it has always been as simple as deleting the session file and let it recreate it.

Thanks both - just curious. Just clicked the magnifying glas and scrolled to the bottom as I thought they were sorted in ascending order and took a long time to get to the bottom. Most of our sessions are internal/unattended and to this end we don't need to know much beyond 30 days, but it's a low priority and I can't be bothered (or have the time) to delete the 100+ logs every30 days.

Thanks again

You could create a simple batch or vbs script that is setup to fire daily using the task scheduler and have it clean out the session log folder each day or 30 days.

I'm running a two function batch file:

1) it imports the session logs into a sql database so we can do billing reports from them for tech time (the import then runs a GEOIP query on remote IP's so we can figure out which client they are)

2) it zips the xml files and moves them to a backup folder

Currently, that runs weekly.

You could use a part of my Post Reporting on Session. There you'll find a PowerShell Script which collects all the session Files and summarize them in a single xml file and put the summarized session files in a archive folder.
