Hi we have a PC Win 7 Desktop at work and an old Dell Latitude D610 at home running Lubuntu.

We need to:

1) connect and control Lubuntu Laptop remotely from PC Win 7
2) connect and control PC Win 7 remotely from Lubuntu Laptop

1) this step is a success thanks to a thread here called "Connecting to Client using Lubuntu". In this case client = "customer"
2) we are close here but cannot load the ConnectWiseControl.ClientBootstrap.jnlp

We get this:

Exception in thread "ConnectWiseControl Client" java.lang.RuntimeException: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/usn/jnlp/JNLPClassloader at net.sourceforge.jnlp.Launcher$TgThread.run(Launcher.java:959)

. . . 7 more

aside from that we do see the ScreenConnect Logo in a separate window.

when we tried javaws the first time it recommended Icedtea

we just got the same results after opening IceTea and deleting all the files in its cache.

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated - thank you in advance!!

On the Lubuntu machine, make sure the following are installed:

openjdk-8-jre
icedtea-netx

You can do this by typing on the terminal:

Quote:
sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jre icedtea-netx

After those packages have been installed, use the Firefox web browser (Chrome will not work) to access your ConnectWise Control site and start a session. Firefox will ask what you want to do with the file. Select open with icedtea. Session should start.

I'm typing this from memory so I hope I got the steps right. If you get any errors or other messages, post back so we can help you.

Success!!

Thank you ckibodeaux

you have an excellent memory

but it looks like we already had the right components installed

when we entered: sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jre icedtea-netx

the Laptop Lubuntu went through the motions but the last line said:

0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove . . .

But you saved the day by deducing we were going in circles with the Chromium Web browser

We had been avoiding Firefox because I read that it no longer supported Java - I guess that is where icedtea steps in

Thank you again for your timely response.

We have managed to put an old Dell Latitude D610 Lap to full function use by removing the unsupported windows XP operating system and replacing it with Lubuntu, Firefox, Java, icedtea, and screenconect !!

In addition to saving money the user of this old laptop will not need to relearn everything - firefox/screenconnect will take him to his familiar Win 7 environment.
