Here's a little utility we put together today. People have always asked for a quicker way to connect to frequently used machines. This should do it. Using the windows "Jump Lists" where it lists recent connections and you can pin machines directly should give the most benefit.

I've attached an exe that can be ran directly. I've also attached source.

.NET 4.5 is required on your desktop machine.

The 2nd ScreenConnector.exe listed below is for 4.0 and higher

I use the var %SCVERBUILD% in my session names ....

so it makes this utility unusable since my unattendeds session names change when they update .
are there a way you can add notes to this so we can use a note to identify the session for this utility .

also if we use OTP i dont believe this would work ?

looks like it would have been easier for you guys to have created
a direct link to the unattended like you do for emailing invites on the attended sessions .

and then simply added a button to click on each unattended session the created a shortcut
to that link on the desktop .

then no exe needed ...

Session Name can actually be anything that you use in the top right search box to find the session. I suppose we could make that clearer.

And it does work with users with OTP defined, even without the OTP, but it needs to be fixed so that it doesn't work with these users.

Is there anyway that we could export a list of the current Access PC's to be imported into the xml config file? For my team, i just sent them instructions on how to add all the PC's to the XML file in %APPDATA%\ScreenConnector\..\..\user.config.xml, but for some of our technicians, thats "too much" for them to do. Basically, I was just curious if there's a quick way to get a list of machines to import into ScreenConnector?

But, aside from that, I love this software. Works for exactly what I need and is extremely handy to have.

We were going to make the combo box show a list of machines, but then I just liked the fact I could type any string/substring in the box and it would just search and connect. The recent/pinning is what works for best for me. Anyway, we may add this.

Btw, I wouldn't get too many people in your organization too dependent on this. It isn't supported and I don't know how upgrades and version compatibility will work.

Makes sense. We only have maybe 5 people that use the Access sessions anyway. Most of the field tech's still prefer to VPN and RDP to the servers, which is fine with me. Thanks for the update and info!

I made some modifications to allow command line arguments to be sent in.

If you run the program with ARG 1 is the session name, ARG 2 is the URL to the server you can then enter in your ID and password.

I made these customizations so I can call it from Dell KBOX.

In Dell Kbox I added a custom machine action to this exe.

In Kbox I added the following.

Name: Command Line:
ScreenConnect -> "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Screen Connect\\screenconnectplugin.exe" KACE_HOST_NAME "https://connect.server.com"

Assuming that KACE_HOST_NAME is equivalent to Session Names in ScreenConnect

If you would like this customization, send me a private message. It doesn't seem I have permissions to attach the file.

Jake / Delirium

Can one of you please shoot me instruction on how to add my list of hosts like you mentioned in your post about xml?? I don't mind doing this, but I just need a little guidance :-)

Or if someone could explain anotherway to populate the hosts sessions in the screenconnector.exe app that would be equally appreciated...

Thanks,

Hello everybody!

i think i need some advices about my needs of ScreenConnector since 4.0.

Here is the situation
i use Screenconnector as plugin in a monitoring GUI , wich allow with a right click to connect directly on any servers we manage, and wich have unattended session agent installed on (wich is the case for all servers.
i use variables wich inject parameters into screenconnector.exe , telling the .exe :

C:\ScreenConnector\bin\Debug\ScreenConnector.exe http://SCURL.EXT USERNAME HASHEDPASSWORD $HOST$

($HOST$ injects the target name in monitoring GUI wich the Tech chosen to connect to.)

but now i use 4.0, and even more: i'm using Active directory authentication.

how can i manage , to inject arguments to allow the screenconnector running on every tech's PCs without having to change the hashedpassword in config files each time they password expires?

If you have any idea, it'll be greatly Welcome! :)
i thought something about a environment variable on windows 8 wich contain the hashed password, someone knows something about this ?

Hi all,

I'm trying to integrate this to mRemoteNG http://www.mremoteng.org/.

C:\ScreenConnector\bin\Debug\ScreenConnector.exe http://SCURL.EXT USERNAME HASHEDPASSWORD $HOST$

The command line is clear to me but how do I generate the HASHEDPASSWORD? With encryption is used? MD5/Base64/...?

If I look into the source I find something about UTF8 Base64 strings. But a hash generated with this results in a "wrong parameter" message box.

Any chance on getting this app reinitialized for the 5.0 pre-release...???

This is such a useful app; and its how I connect to all my sessions and I use it on a daily basis... I just upgraded to the 5.0 pre-release today and ran into this brick wall trying to use the app.. I am getting a 404 error on all my saved sessions even though I can login via the website.

Thanks in advance..

Still getting a load error...

I have uninstalled and completely started a new browser after clearing the cache, and I still get a broken picture and load error.

Thanks for the explaination of what to look for; but I gotta say, this app just became un-useful if you have to go to the support website each time to load the app or launch it... It really needs to be a separate app like the one that is established now...

This is of course, my opinion... and my opinion only.. and its worth exactly what everyone just paid for my two cents worth :-)

Seriously, I do appreciate the work you guys are putting into this product.. Im sure we will all come to a happy medium, eventually.

Oh, it's just a one-time download; the exe works the same as previous versions, you just download it from the host page rather than a forum thread.

I'm not sure about the load error, but there's a new prerelease out that might help.

also screenconnecter is not working as should

when i use it to connect to a unattended session .
when i click the x to close the window it ask me if i would like to end
the session ...

it should not be asking to end the session with a installed unattended client.

OK.. UPdated with latest build, it did in fact fix the screenconnector ext load error; however the way this is now handled needs some serious reconsideration as to ease of use, comparatively speaking..

To find the screencnnector executable, post extension update, I had to go on a hunting expedition and after having to read and re-read your last post about it being on the host page, I finally decided to click on the "extras" option, which I absolutely do not care for.. again from an ease of use from previous versions of this application..

I was then able to pin the executable to the start bar, after downloading, and to my dismay, was still flagged as being potentially dangerous and the actions are ALWAYS hidden and discrete.. After jumping through a few, please run my app, confirmations, the link successfully connected to my host.. I then click on the "X" as I always do to close out the access, to go to another connection, only to be prompted to 'continue this session for later use" Y/N, well I hit NO.. This was a bad, bad, bad decision... as the application on the host side then uninstalled itself and left me with NO ACCESS... Like I said, this needs some immediate attention to disable and uninstall the host app with one fail swoop is a really bad decision process, in my opinion. I think it counter intuitive to ask that type of simple question, with the anticipated result of not continuing the session, because of licensing stricture, up to this point would have ALWAYS indicated NOT to continue the session... maybe this was a particular, in your case only sceniero...

Anyway.. In my opinion again, this app and the way it is presented and applied as an extension, is a unintentionable consequence action that most users would find themselves in a state of disbelief, if this issue was not known and documented. Lucky for me on this particular host, I did have another form of remote connection to it..

I applaud the application design work, and I think ultimately it will be resolved, but until then, CAVEAT EMPTOR`E and take heed of this warning about the way this application asks a simple question and note the answer to always be "Yes" to continue the session...

Thanks again and I look forward to the versions to come!

i have tried screenconnector, but with less success. starting the tool normaly works fine, but i would like to use it over command line and this causes headache.
the arguments have to be in the order of

screenconnector.exe username password session

username is no problem, but can't get it to work with a password. i tried to convert it to base64, but had no success. i only get wrong parameter. also i would suggest to change the argument order to have the session at first. in this way i could do the following

screenconnector.exe session

so the screenconnector app starts, has the username from last time in the input field and the correct session in the session field. i only would have to input the password and would be connected.

the other way would be to use argument flags, so the order would not be important like:

screenconnector.exe -session MyServer -username MyAdmin -password password -encryptedpassword Yuio23SDDuyxv9x"3e4juxs9

greets
Georg

The password has to be encrypted with ProtectedData.Protect.

Specifically:
Code:
Convert.ToBase64String(ProtectedData.Protect(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(password), null, DataProtectionScope.CurrentUser));

Can anyone tell me what cli command to use to connect with username/password/session and how to encrypt password..
screenconnector.exe testuser passwordencrypted "session"
But whatever I type as password even the actual password does not work...

The actual password isn't going to work; it's looking for the password encrypted using .NET's ProtectedData.Protect method and encoded as a base-64 string, as I said in my previous post on this thread.

i have build a small .net application which hashes the password. thanks to alexander pointing to the ProtectedData.Protect

ScreenConnect_Hasher

i cannot attach any file here in this thread, so i uploaded it to filedropper. eventually Alexander can download it and attach it to the thread, thus it will be available even if it gets deleted from filedropper.

Ok, relatively new to SC, but I guess I'm missing something.

If I'm gathering all the commandline parameters correctly it'd be screenconnector.exe username hashedpasswordfromhasher "SessionName". However, how can this work from the commandline when the hashed password is so long that you are over the 256 character command limit?

Hmm, when I tried it on my Windows 8 machine it worked even with a 305-character command lineā€¦ if you're encountering a limit, I don't know that there's an easy way around it.

OK, maybe I'm being dense...

I take the password, run it through the hasher and take the resulting output and use as the password as the command line parameter correct?

I've attached an exe that can be ran directly. I've also attached source.

.NET 4.5 is required on your desktop machine.

The 2nd ScreenConnector.exe listed below is for 4.0 and higher

For some reason, it is not working for me (SC v5.5).

It gives me: 'The remote server returned an error:(404) Not Found'

from the same computers I use daily with SC thru web console.

(all input asked are typed right)

I appreciate your input since now.

ScreenConnector is now distributed through an extension; that bug is likely fixed in the latest version. (There's also a new thread.)
