Similar to what was requested here:

We would like a description field added next to the computer name field in the admin portal when viewing the list of available unattended sessions. Renaming the machine to be more descriptive isn't an option because the machines already have asset tags on them with the computer name. (those tags are expensive)

Also when a computer is offline is disappears from the list of unattended sessions. We previously used LogMeIn before screenconnect and one if its better features was it could use Wakeup On Lan from another machine to power on a machine that was asleep or off. Having this feature in SC would be very nice!

Hope others would find this useful as well

In 2.2 we are looking at add notes that will be searchable. This would give you the ability to find sessions very quickly.

But I'd still recommend defining a system-level environment variable on each machine for additional identification. Use this variable in your session tag. Environment variables hang around forever and can be useful even outside of screenconnect. In ScreenConnect 2.1 you can define an installer with the environment variable, and have techs fill in the environment variable on the machine when connected. You can even create a bat file in the toolbox to do this. Here is a setenv.bat:

Code:
@echo off
set /p MACHINEID=Please enter a machine ID:
setx MACHINEID %MACHINEID% -m
echo Set MACHINEID to %MACHINEID%
set /p ENTER=Press enter to continue.

I can agree with Kizzane on both points, but given we are only a SMB, I wont be pushing the MSI out via scripting, so friendly names when I create the Unattended Installer is acceptable, as long as we follow a naming convention, i.e. "ClientName - Bobs desktop PC Win7" filtering on the name is now very easy.

The second point about offline machines strikes a chord with us as well, it seems there is no way to see session details or history if the machine is offline, the alternative is to dig into the directories, which doesnt appeal to our non-technical users.

Ryan

I'm curious for anyone following this post, do you feel the new notes field is providing a good path to add the information you need for the descriptions? Or have you implemented a good process for the build installer that helped fix this concern? We have a post for 2.2 session manager and unattended installer ideas please let us know what you think we could do to make those better: http://forum.screenconne...-Improvement-Ideas.aspx

I second the request for Wakeup On Lan as most PC's out the box come with System Standby set to a fairly short time. Also most clients don't want their kit on all evening/night which is often when we need to support them.

If we could have an SC approved way of installing something on a client's always on server, then have a way of selecting those machines with SC installed and just wake them up.

The Wake On Lan request has been sumbitted, in the past our architecture wouldn't have supported this. With 2.4 there are now more options available to us and we will do our best to address items like Wake On Lan.
