Hi :) I have been using ScreenConnect for over a year now. I love it. Having an issue though with Linuxmint 16 client. When I click to join a session as host it connects just fine, but the task panel at the bottom is missing. Just see the home and computer icons on a black desktop. Unable to access anything else really. Anyone else experiences this? Any solutions ? Thanks !

~William

P.S. this happens if I am hosting from windows or linux, so I'm, thinking its some configuration issue on the client ?

Does the guest have multiple monitors? I've had a bit of trouble with Linux guests (mostly mint) with multiple displays. Other than that my mint clients seem pretty trouble free.

Greetings!

Out of curiosity, what DE is being used no the Linux Mint setup in question? I've personally noticed some strange behavior with Cinnamon and how it draws the desktop, I'm wondering if its related.

I've got a problem with Linux Mint 16 as well. Real strange mouse and keyboard behavior. I have a support case open, but they keep telling me that it "may" be fixed in the next version. I currently have v.4.0.x of the client installed and have not had a chance to upgrade to 4.2.x yet. I'll keep you posted.

We have a working ticket with Jeff to explore this keyboard issue and have a developer on the issue as well. Thanks Jeff for letting us use your session to resolve.

I appreciate the offer, we are looking into the issue but I can't give an ETA on when we may find a solution. I'll do my best to keep you updated.

To update: we recently came across a pretty similar issue with Unity that we were able to provide a functional workaround. Namely, we forced the DE to redraw the desktop in a different manner using the following command:

gconftool --set --type bool /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager false
After execution, make sure to log out and then back in so that the desktop can be redrawn.

I'm not completely confident that the Cinnamon issue is the same, but it if someone would mind giving that a shot and letting me know how it goes I would appreciate it.

Hi,

I sent an email to ScreenConnect support in July regarding the same issue: i.e. a blank black desktop in Cinnamon via ScreenConnect (only showing the Desktop icons - no bottom panel and partially re-drawing of active window, sometimes!).

We are using Linux Mint 17 LTS with Cinnamon, and all updates are installed.

We are currently using ScreenConnect version 4.3, are are planning to upgrade to 5.x when it is stable - however I haven't seen any mention of the Cinnamon issue being fixed in the Output Stream forum for ScreenConnect 4.4 or 5.0 (here: Output-Stream).

We have some clients who are moving from Windows XP to Linux Mint, so are very interested in getting this issue fixed.

TeamViewer works flawlessley with Linux Mint 17 (Cinnamon edition).

Are developers still working on this? Any ETA yet?

Many thanks...

Kind regards,

Adam.

I am not aware of any current issues with Mint but if anyone wants to see if 5.0 helps we can certainly setup a test with you or let you try one of our new cloud beta installations for your testing. Just contact sales@screenconnect.com if you want to try the cloud beta or support@screenconnect.com if you want someone to run a quick test with you to see if issue is resolved.

Often in our output stream we don't call out the problem that is fixed but more what change we made.

I'm using ScreenConnect Build 5.5.10444, and still having this issue with Linux Mint
17.3 X64 Cinnamon clients. This is happening on remote support sessions and remote access sessions;
when I click to join a session as host it connects just fine, but the task panel at the bottom is missing. Just see
the home and computer icons on a black desktop. On the Mint XFCE edition clients everything is working fine.

I already updated the Linux client and the problem still persist.

You can try MATE the desktop in linux. It works with Centos as a client.

I am having the same problem with Mint 17.3 Cinnamon. I have no desire to install a different DE or suggest that clients do. It has actually been a problem for over a year now and it would be good to see something done. The support ticket I raised about this has been pretty much ignored.

This is still an issue. I noticed this as well on a local guest Linux Mint Cinn installation... the "taskbar" is invisible to the Host but clicks in the taskbar area raise the guest machine's events and launch the 'start menu' on the guest machine which is not visible from the Host.

This issue still affects Linux Mint 18.1 and 18.2 64-bit. There is a Screenwise university article which indicates that the problem is with Java Runtime, should be fixed in Version 9 of Java out in Sept. 2017.

I just tested this on a fresh install of Mint Cinnamon 18.2 x64, and I can confirm the screen elements problem still exists when using the latest JRE. Using the older JRE from the link fixes it, but leaves you running an outdated version of Java.
