Here is a build of 2.4 for the adventurous. We fully overhauled our Relay service, and this has taken a while to get fully stabilized. We'd like to work out some of the last few kinks before putting it on the downloads page.

Notable changes:

- Multiple hosts can join and control a session
- Reinstall and Uninstall of unattended clients (Windows-only for this build)
- Lots of performance tweaks and some UI-smoothness tweaks

Now available on d/l page: http://screenconnect.com/Download

Firefox v8
IE v9

Wont connect.

Chrome v15.0.874.121

Connects but the Reinstall and Uninstall are still disabled even for 2.4 clients

OK, yes, so the 2151 build only works in Chrome. We'll get this fixed tomorrow.

...and for the uninstall/reinstall, you may have to add those permissions.

Hahaha I feel stupid now I should have known..

A feature request... When adding permissions remove the ones that are currently assigned for that user, would make it a lot less confusing to see what permissions are "missing"

In the future our installer will add these permissions. But how should we add it? Add "ReinstallSession" and "UninstallSession" for any group with "Administer" permissions? Add for any group with "BuildUnattendedInstaller" permission?

Hmm that's a good question, I would be ok with BuildUnattendedInstaller but that just based on our internal usage but it makes sense that if you can build it you can reinstall and uninstall but i could also see that some people might want to be over controlling and prevent techs from uninstalling from "right out of the box".

I would agree add it for BuildUnattendedInstaller.

Maybe during the upgrade you should add a big warning that states something like below:

Code:
"Please make sure you go to Administration->Security and add/remove the new values "ReinstallSession" and "UninstallSession" as soon as possible!"

I think at a minimum administrators should be warned of new security rights assigned when upgrading to prevent giving access to someone that shouldn't have it.

In our limited testing with multiple technicians connected to the same client, it works great!

This is HUGE for us. Thank-you 100 times over!

No one ever said it was coming in 2.4. 2.4 was virtually a complete rewrite of the relay service to allow many cool new features like a shared tool box. The bugs have to be worked out in the new relay service before this can move forward. It will come soon I am sure!

From those of you that have installed 2.4, does it seem to be stable? I think I want to try it, but didn't want to open the wrong can of worms if I didn't have to.

so far running good, i am in my trial period and just updated to version 2.4 for testing, the only problem i have is when i test the new uninstall, it did uninstall from my test computer but is still showing that a uninstall was initiated in the admin console. Am i missing something?
I did add the permissions and all good with that, is there a help file for the new features that were added?

I have found a small glitch with 2.4. all of my unattended installs after using the upgrade in the admin side from the lastest 2.3 are
going Grey in the technician listing .

they will stay green for a few days after upgrading then they go grey and never come back ..
i have found that the screen connect service on there system has crashed .
and restarting the service fails. so i reboot the unattended client system
and it shows green again .

I have 3 things in all the clients that crashed so far...

Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the ScreenConnect Guest Service (5bc49d1bd73ef2cd) service to connect.

and

The ScreenConnect Guest Service (5bc49d1bd73ef2cd) service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

and this one not sure if its related but it exactly at the time when its failing to restart

Failed extract of third-party root list from auto update cab at: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootstl.cab> with error: A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file.
.

on the windows 7 machine i also have:

Application 'C:\Program Files\ScreenConnect Guest Client\Elsinore.ScreenConnect.GuestClient.exe' (pid 2844) cannot be restarted - Application SID does not match Conductor SID..

Has anyone run into a problem when they try to upgrade/uninstall an agent where it just doesn't do anything? I have tried starting the process from firefox and also IE. So far I have come across 2 machines that have this problem. The first one is running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and the second one is running Windows XP Professional x32. I checked the event log on both machines and nothing was listed.

Thanks!

What version are the guest clients at on those two machines. Jake can correct me if I am wrong but it may not work if they are older version guest clients.

Disregard my last post, i posted to soon. Here is what i did during testing, I installed a unattended session on a client machine and started a session, i then sent a uninstall and the console showed uninstall started and it did indeed uninstall from the client machine. The console showed uninstall initiated until the next day, which would be the 24 hour period and then it was removed, i looked in the log files and it confirmed it also. Works great so far and i will certainly be purchasing, i have used most on the market and love how simple and yet powerful the software is. I am new to SC but not to remote software, i have been remote ting to clients for years. So far i have tested version 2.4 on server 2000, 2008, and small business and worked with no problems, seem very stable so far. I have also hosted from my home workstation using windows xp and windows 7 on a domain and still no problem. The setup that i am using now is on a windows xp pro workstation on a domain, forwarded ports to that workstation and using a service that i have been using for over 10 years from dynip.com, which cost $24.99 a year to resolve the ip issue and it works flawlessly. I am in the process of testing on x64's later this evening.

The only issue that i had since upgrading from version 2.3 is the sessions seem to run a little slower, i will have to test a little further, could just be my connection.

Found another issue, message keeps popping up that states server timed out when client is connecting but it stills connects.

This is interesting because they optimized the sessions for better performance in 2.4 vs 2.3

While we optimized a lot of the code, there are still some parameters to tweak. Also, release vs debug builds make a difference.

Do this and you will not regret it. This is by far one of the best and most responsive companies we have every dealt with. Jake and his support team really listen to what users want and strive every build to make things better.

Also, If you are thinking of purchasing, you may want to do so now as the license price is going up slightly here soon!

We're on 2.4 and it's running quite good.

What i noticed on the latest build:
In the Host Client it does no longer ask if I want to end the session when I try to close the window.
Is this by design? Have I missed some setting?
Clicking on end session does work.

One other thing I noticed: The tooltips for the buttons (Join, End, Transfer, Add Note, Reinstall, Uninstall) are "Null"

I noticed this end session thing too. It seems that if the guest client is disconnected for instance in a reboot then it doesn't ask me, but if it is connected then it asks.

As far as tooltips, in IE I see the same thing, but to add one more, the checkbox says "Join".

Your "Join" is from a bug in the old upgrade process. You can change it to "Select" in your appearance customization. It won't affect anyone that didn't use one of the super-early pre-releases.

We'll fix the IE tooltip issue.

We'll look into the prompting for ending the session.

Ok, stupid question from a Newbie. I would love to test 2.4 and report here, however, we are a new user (BTW we LOVE this product), and we want to be able to revert to a stable release if we have problems. Is this possible and easy?? If so, I will install the Beta.

Let me know. Thanks!!

If you save off your current install then yes, it is easy. It's not as easy otherwise, as you have to backport your customizations. You need to kind of follow the steps here to restore in the event you want to go back:

Hi there,

Can anyone connect to a Mac using the latest build? I've been unable to since installing 2.4 (currently on 2.4.2248.4406) and trying to connect to OSX 10.5.5 so just wondering if it's because the OSX version old.

Cheers

I just tested on a Mac and it worked. May want to go into "Finder->Utilities->Java Preferences->Advanced" and check "Show Console" to see if there are any error messages.
